Potty theft in Logan not petty

By Heather Fredrickson

LOGAN— A portable toilet on a trailer was stolen about a month ago but was not reported until Thursday to the Logan City Police Department.

"We have a hundred of those units," Tim Gordon, owner of Logan's Roto-Rooter Sewer & Drain, said. "Maybe somebody wanted it for their cabin."

The trailer, taken from a Roto-Rooter storage area at 825 W. 200 South, was designed to fit any vehicle with a 2-inch ball trailer hitch.

Gordon said the units usually rent for $60 for up to a three-day weekend, including chemicals and toilet paper.

"We pump and clean it," Gordon said. "That's what the rental cost is for."

Not much work had been done at the back of the storage facility where the units are kept, Gordon said, and he didn't notice the trailer was missing until Thursday. He said another employee told him he noticed the unit missing when his schedule changed from part-time to full-time on March 12.

The toilet will not be replaced, but a new trailer will cost between $1,500 and $2,000.

Logan City Police Lt. L.R. Earl said the trailer is tan and orange with black handrails and white spoke wheels. The toilet had Roto-Rooter's phone number, "752-8367," written on its side, Earl said.

Neither Earl nor Gordon had any idea why the unit was stolen.

"Years ago we'd have blamed the frats," Earl said, "but they've calmed down a bit."

The toilet and trailer will be missed.

"That was my best unit," Gordon said.

Information regarding the theft of the toilet and trailer can be given to the Logan City Police Department at 753-7555.
