'Les Liaisons Dangereuses' opens at USU Theatre By
the USU theatre arts department
Utah State Theatre presents Christopher Hampton's cunning adaptation of Choderlos de Laclos's notorious 18th century novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses (Dangerous Liaisons is presented in English) at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and April 20-22 in the Morgan Theatre of the USU Chase Fine Arts Center. Tickets are available at the Spectrum Ticket Office (797-0305), at the Customer Service Center of the Taggart Student Center, Room 212 (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.), and at the door, although patrons are encouraged to arrive early for best seating. Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for USU faculty/staff and senior citizens, and $5 for youth under 16 and non-USU students. USU students are admitted free with valid ID. Children under 6 are not admitted. According to director Lynda Linford, the play explores the merciless corruption and lusty battlefields of 1784 aristocracy. In a struggle for revenge and inner sanctity, the Vicomte de Valmont and the Marquise de Merteuil deploy a web of deceit stronger than their own psychological clutches can escape. Set just before the French Revolution, the idle and wickedly delightful pair set out to play a game of power and deception. Dangerous Liaisons would probably be rated a strong PG-13 for scenes of sexual innuendo
