On permanence:

Aggies close out Dennehy era with 34-25 victory over New Mexico State

The Utah State Aggies overcame four turnovers with 209 rushing yards and a 23-for-27 passing night by senior quarterback Travis Cox to defeat the New Mexico State Aggies, 34-25. The northern Aggies' defense also recorded five sacks in keeping the powerful southern Aggies' offense off balance.

Trailing by one point with 2:02 to play, Jarrod Jakubiak kicked a 29-yeard field goal to put USU ahead for good. A minute later Toriano Taulougo returned an interception 44 yards to seal the victory.

The win gave USU a 3-8 record overall (2-5 in the Sun Belt Conference) and denied NMSU (5-6, 3-3) bowl eligibility. The game was the last for head coach Mick Dennehy, fired this month for failing to reverse the team's recent misfortunes. The search for a replacement continues.

Attendance was announced as 15,238 -- safely above the minimum required by the NCAA to keep USU off probation for attendance below the Division 1-A requirements.
